She is not an extremely religious person, but at the end of the story, she uses religion in a way to try to save herself from the Misfit and achieves grace safe before he shoots her. He is an black-market man who, by decision the grandmothers life, assists her by making her a better person in death. “‘She would of been a unsloped woman,’ The Misfit said, ‘if it had been one-on-one there to shoot her every minute of her life.’” (p. 10).
